Yeah I agree, I kinda got sick of playing shopkeeper for like 30 runs before I managed to clear hell mode even if she's my favorite character.A change to the 1hp debuff would be nice so all characters have more or less an equal chance of winning. Something like you have a chance to obtain a random debuff each time you get hit (mana regen, fire, frost, poison, root, you name it). There's probably better solutions though that are more mechanically interesting like evil hostages. I suggested earlier that enemies just do more damage which effectively is close to 1 hp (or maybe harder in the long run), but would be more fun and actually playable probably without relying on getting max hp. Not that it isn't possible with others, but feels a lot more RNG. Version 1.5 introduces Easy Mode in the form of Angel Mode. I feel that it could be rebalanced so that it's at least playable on characters besides solo saffron or shopkeeper. One Step From Eden is a Roguelike action RPG with Deckbuilding Game-inspired mechanics. Sorry if this is kind of rambly, I'm very tired. Everything else seems like fair modifiers. I'm thinking the only way to make it a little more consistent would be to change the "luck starts at 20" modifier to something like "luck increases by 5 every stage", so you still end up with a hard run but don't get elite enemies out the gate. Or how sometimes your first encounter will level you up immediately or not, which makes a huge difference. Then there's the fact that if your first stage happens to be Reva or Selicy, you may as well just restart, the bosses definitely aren't created equal. I've been trying at this for hours, and I've had one run that got to stage 7 before I was put in a situation where I literally couldn't win, through no fault of my own. I get that it's a roguelike, and luck is a big part of it, but it seems to me like luck is the only thing that matters once you hit this point. I get that it's supposed to be really hard, but the fact that I can get stuck on the first encounter depending on my character, or the fact that it's 100% dependent on luck if you win doesn't really sit right with me. the balance isn't all there, I don't think. So I've been making my way through all the various hell passes and for the most part the increase in difficulty was gradual enough that it didn't feel too terribly unfair, and then I reached HM14 and it just.
